This site records what can be checked against a document. It is a reference and
fact-checking publication about Bangladesh. It does not publish opinion, analysis or prediction, and it
takes no position on any political question.
What we check — and what we do not
We check claims and figures that can be settled against a source of record. In practice that means:
- statistical releases from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and other official agencies;
- budget, expenditure and ADP figures from the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Division;
- audit and commission reports, and annual reports of statutory bodies;
- gazette notifications, tender awards, licence and tariff decisions;
- court judgments, and examination and admission results;
- appointments to statutory bodies.
We do not check questions of political preference, the merits of a policy, the character
or motives of any person, or predictions about the future. Where a claim cannot be settled by a document,
we say so and mark it Unverifiable rather than forcing a judgement.
This scope is a stated policy, not a convenience. It is what makes it possible for our checks to be
reproduced by anyone with access to the same public documents.
Our sources, and how we rank them

Every check cites primary sources, and key elements are confirmed against more than one named source.
Each source carries a tier and the date it was retrieved.
How a check is made
- Select. The claim must be specific, attributable, and consequential to a document we can obtain.
- Quote. The claim is reproduced verbatim, with the venue and the date it was made. We do not paraphrase a claim, because a paraphrase becomes a second argument about what was said.
- Gather. We assemble the evidence that supports the claim and the evidence that contradicts it, and publish both.
- Rate. A verdict, on the scale below.
- Record. The verdict is published with a changelog. Verified figures are then absorbed into the relevant reference article, citing the check.
The verdict scale

| Misleading | Technically accurate, but materially deceptive in framing or omission. |
| Unsupported | No admissible source supports it. This is not the same as false. |
| False | Contradicted by the sources of record. |
| Unverifiable | The record does not permit a determination. Carries the same weight as any other verdict. |
Our neutrality rules
- The same evidentiary standard applies whoever made the claim.
- Every contested claim names who holds each position, on what basis. Where sources genuinely disagree and the disagreement cannot be resolved, we display the disagreement and mark it disputed. We do not delete it and we do not resolve it.
- The site’s own voice never adjudicates a political question. It records.
- We never characterise a person, only a claim. A check names a venue and a date, never a motive.
- Statistics and office-holders always carry an “as of” date. An undated figure is not verified.

This site is an independently operated publication. Editorial responsibility rests with the publisher,
bangladeshwiki.com. Ownership, legal form and funding disclosure will be published on this
page once the organisation is formally registered; we will not describe a structure we do not yet have.
